Maarten van der Spek 

Director, Strategy & Research

Maarten van der Spek, a Dutch citizen, is the founder of Spek Advisory, an independent consultancy focused on helping institutional investors optimize their private markets strategy, with a specialization in private real estate. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the TIAS School for Business and Society, where he teaches real estate data analytics.

 

Maarten brings over 24 years of global experience in real estate investing, strategy, and research. Prior to launching his own advisory firm, he was Head of Strategy at BNP Paribas Real Estate Investment Management (BNPP REIM), overseeing research and product development across the firm’s European platform. Before BNPP, he was based in the UAE as a Manager within the Private Assets Strategy team at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds.

 

Earlier in his career, Maarten served as a real estate strategist at PGGM, the Dutch pension investment manager, and held various leadership roles at ING Real Estate Investment Management, where he was ultimately appointed Managing Director of Research & Strategy for Continental Europe.

 

Maarten holds a PhD from Tilburg University in the field of indirect private real estate, as well as two Master of Science degrees in Econometrics and Investment Management from VU University Amsterdam.

 At AUC Partners, Maarten leads the GP Strategic Advisory efforts, focusing on in-depth macroeconomic analysis, global and regional market research, and asset class insights relevant to the GCC region.
